Active Role players?!
Mpho Moloele
It is unspoken of/for but yet has a distinctive voice, a
voice which advocates stealing, killing and destroying. Xenophobia, a social ill which first hit South
Africa in the year 2008 has found its way back in 2015 to the mentally enslaved
minority. While a lot has been reported about the symptoms of the violent
attacks which are occurring now, little or nothing is known and mentioned about
the cause of the attacks of foreign nationals. Just like in 2008, foreign
nationals are being attacked, displaced, deployed and some even sadly killed.
Can we find the cause, maybe even have a clinical trial and
permanently cure this disease? Can we live in an A”free”ca were genuinely “I am
because you are?” Can we not just say “As Bantu we are all children of the
Soil” but just let it be. Can we invest as much energy or even more in action
rather than in words of hate or words which just float, floating in the midst
of deaf ears? Can we not be divided by artificial borders? Can we be the change
by acting in love rather than in hate?
Just like Bob Marley’s lyrics, “let us get up and stand up
for our rights” as an African Unit, acknowledge our differences, complement our
similarities and embrace our co existence. Let’s “emancipate ourselves from mental
slavery because none but ourselves can free our minds”.
The Bethesda Methodist Church took charge by preaching and
marching against Xenophobia in Yeoville, Johannesburg on the 19th of
April 2015. Singing joyful songs inclusive of Christian values and Africa, members
of other churches standing by the sidewalk, the community and foreign nationals
became part of the initiative of marching for peace. What PEACE you might ask
yourself, it is the PEACE of Jesus Christ, the PEACE that surpasses all
understanding.
Chanting “One Heart, One Mind” brought the light in the darkness
that at the beginning and end of it all, from Cape to Cairo WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS
and YES WE ARE ONE, ONE A”FREE”CA.
